Alcon to showcase next-gen retina tools and clinical data at ASRS annual meeting

Alcon plans to showcase its latest clinical data and “groundbreaking innovations” at the upcoming American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) Annual Meeting set for July 31 to August 2 in Long Beach, California.

Jim DiFilippo, vice president & general manager, US surgical at Alcon, commented on Alcon’s appearance at the upcoming conference in a press release from the company.

“At ASRS, we’re proud to highlight our singular, strategic vision: delivering surgical efficiency and equipping retina specialists with the tools to achieve exceptional patient outcomes,” said DiFilippo. “From the introduction of Intelligent Fluidics and the HyperVit 30k CPM Vitrectomy Probe to the TetraSpot Multi-spot Laser Probe, the Unity VCS platform brings first-to-market innovations.”

Presentations at the conference from Alcon include:

  • “Comparison of Traction Force between Current Generation and Next Generation Vitrectomy Systems (25Ga),” presented by Steve T. Charles, MD, FASRS, FACS, FICS on Friday, August 1, at 8:00 a.m.
  • “Functional Assessment of a Novel 27-Gauge Multi-Spot Laser Probe in a Surgical Simulation Bioniko Eye Model,” presented by Kourous Rezaei, MD, on Friday, August 1, at 8:03 a.m.
  • “The Safety, Brightness and Clinical Options of the LED RGB Light Source on the UNITY Vitreoretinal Cataract System (VCS) Platform,” presented by David R. Chow, MD, FRCS(C), on Friday, ugust 1, at 8:06 a.m.
  • “Advancing Intraocular Pressure (IOP) Control: What Next-Generation Surgical Systems Bring to IOP Management. ”Poster presentation by Martin Charles, MD
  • “IOP Control During Phacofragmentation: CONSTELLATION Vision System (CVS) vs. UNITY VCS (UVCS).” Video presentation by Martin Charles, MD

The company also noted that its UNITY VCS will be available for surgeons to demo and purchase during ASRS. Additionally, Alcon will be providing a demo of the UNIPEXY Gas Delivery System, a portable, in-clinic gas delivery system featuring an integrated single-dose pico-cylinder of perfluoropropane (C3F8) or sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), enabling “convenient and efficient pneumatic retinopexy.”

The “Retina Live” podcast will also be hosted at ASRS, featuring interviews with world-renowned retina surgeons sharing their firsthand experiences with technologies mentioned above. Alcon encourages attendees to attend the live recording sessions on the following topics:

  • Intelligent Fluidics – Hosted by Dr. Jay Sridhar, featuring Dr. Maria Berrocal and Dr. Steve T. Charles. Thursday, July 31, 9:50 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Pacific
