The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons recently recognized Dr. Robert Osher with a Lifetime Achievement award. I recently spoke to Dr. Osher about this honor.

The Retina Society recently held its annual meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. At that meeting. Dr. Diana Do made a presentation titled “Population Pharmacokinetic Modeling and Simulation of Ocular Clearance for Aflibercept 8 mg and 2 mg and Association with Durability of Effect.” I got the chance to talk to her about this presentation. Now, the headlines. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a 5-year federal grant for nearly $2.2 million to study how modulating the body’s immune response may potentially benefit patients with certain eye diseases. The grant, awarded by the National Eye Institute (NEI) was given to a laboratory led by Abdel Fouda, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in the UAMS College of Medicine. Fouda’s lab focuses on developing new therapies for ischemic and trauma-induced retinopathy.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is holding its annual meeting October 18 to 21 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, featuring symposia, instruction courses, clinical sessions, original papers, skills transfer lectures, videos and posters, and the Expo.

According to Debra Rosencrance, vice president of meetings and exhibits at the AAO, the theme for AAO 2024 is “elevate.” Visit OphthalmologyTimes.com for details on the agenda.
