The 2023 Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards honor ophthalmology and optometry residents

Article

Nominations for the 2023 awards will close July 31, 2023.

Ophthalmology Times®, Optometry Times®, and Modern Retina® are pleased to announce the 2023 Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards, a new program that acknowledges outstanding residents across the spectrum of ophthalmology, optometry, and retina.

The 2023 Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards is an evolution from the long-time Ophthalmology Times® Best Programs survey (which will cease) to include optometry as well as retina care to celebrate diversity in patient care within the eye care field and foster comanagement.

The 2023 Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards program is specifically tailored to acknowledge and celebrate the exemplary achievements and invaluable contributions of residents across three distinct categories:

  • Best in Ophthalmology,
  • Best in Optometry, and
  • Best in Retina Care.

Please note that ophthalmology residency program directors should select either Best in Ophthalmology or Best in Retina Care.

Throughout the month of July, US Ophthalmology and Optometry residency program directors are invited to submit a written nomination for 1 ophthalmology or optometry resident who is making a difference in the criteria of leadership, education/research, and patient care. Residency program directors are minded to check their email for further information. Eligibility is open to ophthalmology or optometry residents who have actively participated in an ophthalmology or optometry residency program in the United States during the residency year from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

Nominations for the 2023 Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards will close on July 31, 2023.

The Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards celebrate future generations of leaders who have been selected by their residency directors for their remarkable achievements in ophthalmology, optometry, and retina care. The Excellence in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional skills, dedication, leadership, and commitment of residents, while also fostering a sense of pride and motivation among the residents and their program directors.

A distinguished panel of experts in the field of eye care will review all nominations. Nominees will be judged on the merits of their contributions in the categories of leadership, education/research, and patient care. The winners and their nominators will be notified of their selection by November 2023. The winners will be flown out to attend a special awards ceremony in December 2023 at EyeCon 2023, in Sanibel Island, Florida.
