Bangkok-Thai Optical Group researchers have been honored by The Foundation of Science and Technology under the patronage of His Majesty the King, Thailand, for developing the technical expertise to produce uncut finished single-vision lenses made from Trivex material. The research and development team received the 2004 outstanding technologist award in late 2004.

"We are proud that our research group was able to draw upon its knowledge and experience-and the cooperation from PPG Industries Inc, maker of Trivex material-to enable us to become the first company to develop and commercialize uncut finished lenses in this material successfully," said Dr. Sawang Pracharktam, Thai Optical Group executive director.

Thai Optical Group's lenses made from Trivex material (branded Excelite-TVX) were launched in early 2003 in Europe and Asia. The company now supplies distributors in the United States, Europe, and Asia with finished and semi-finished lenses.
