Kleinostheim, Germany-Schwind eye-tech-solutions GmbH this month is celebrating the 1,000th installation of its proprietary laser system for refractive surgery (Schwind Amaris 750S).

“In reaching the number 1,000, we have achieved yet another milestone in the history of our company. This is a great motivation for us to continue to expand our strong market position,” said Rolf Schwind, the company’s chief executive officer.

The first Schwind laser was delivered to South Korea in 1992. Today, laser systems from Schwind have been installed worldwide, with the exception of the United States.

According to estimates by market research company Market Scope, approximately 4,000 excimer lasers from various manufacturers are in operation for the correction of visual defects in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Central and Latin America. Excluding the U.S. market, Schwind achieved a 34% global market share in laser sales in 2011, according to Market Scope.
