During a presentation at EyeCon 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jennifer Loh, MD, of Loh Ophthalmology Associates in Miami, Florida, discussed the latest advances in anterior segment technology, focusing on dry eye treatments and new surgical technologies for intraocular lenses.

Loh emphasized the importance of understanding dry eye etiologies, such as evaporative and aqueous deficiency, and inflammatory components. She also highlighted new medications, like varenicline nasal spray, cyclosporine, and lifitegrast, and new eye drops for evaporation.

Loh noted the second part of the discussion focused on different surgical technologies in the cataract space. She noted a shift in refractive targeting for IOL calculations, moving from myopic to slightly hyperopic targets, based on data from more than 18,000 patients. Advances in biometry devices and improved intraocular lens implants were also mentioned as significant developments.
