Education products unveiled at AAO meeting

The 2008 annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is featuring several new and forthcoming patient education, clinical education, and practice management products produced by the AAO to meet the educational and practice needs of its members. During the meeting, these products are available at the academy's resource center and online.

New products include:

Revised AMD and Diabetic Retinopathy DVDs

These educational DVDs, with content in English and Spanish,feature patients discussing their experience with age-relatedmacular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy. High-qualitygraphics and computer animation are used to illustrate conditionand treatment options.

Personalization available for all patient education DVDs

The opportunity for members to personalize patient education DVDsis available only once a year at the annual meeting. Theintroduction is meant to provide a personal touch and helpalleviate patients' anxiety by presenting them with a familiarface. Contact Julie Bates at 415/561-8549 to make anappointment.

New enhanced lens options for cataract surgerybooklet

This booklet provides patients with concise information onvarious lens options available after cataract surgery, includingtraditional and presbyopia-correcting IOLs. The intention of thisbooklet is to help patients cooperate better with their treatmentplan based on their understanding of the procedure and how tomonitor and control their condition.

New color atlas of gonioscopy, second edition

The second edition atlas provides physicians with an introductionto gonioscope techniques and a vital manual to be proficient inexamining the anterior segment of the eye. New sections include selective laser trabeculoplasty, ultrasoundbiomicroscopy, and anterior segment ocular coherence tomography,updated text and references, and nearly 400 drawings andphotographs.
