Dr. James Tsai oversees department at Yale

New Haven, CT-Glaucoma specialist James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, has been named chairman of the Yale School of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science.

New Haven, CT-Glaucoma specialist James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, has been named chairman of the Yale School of Medicine's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science.

Dr. Tsai previously worked at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. He is studying whether erythropoietin, a hormone made by the kidney that aids in red blood cell formation, can protect the optic nerve against glaucoma. Dr. Tsai succeeds M. Bruce Shields, MD, who had led the department since 1996.
