Boston-The FDA has cleared a pattern scan laser (MC-500 Vixi Multicolor Pattern Scan Laser, Nidek) that features a customizable choice of 532-nm green, 577-nm yellow, and 647-nm red wavelengths.

The laser, which was just introduced at the American Society of Retinal Specialists annual meeting in Boston, includes eight preprogrammed scan patterns with a memory function for effective treatment of various retinal pathologies. Up to 14 scanning patterns are available.

“This pattern scan laser based on our previous successful technology is our most advanced laser yet, finally offering the choice of any configuration of green, yellow, or red colors,” said Motoki Ozawa, president and chief executive officer of Nidek. “This new scanning system demonstrates our continued commitment to the ophthalmic community.”
