CIBA Vision opens Singapore production facility

Singapore—CIBA Vision has opened a multi-million-dollar contact lens and lens care manufacturing facility at Tulas Biomedical Park here, where it will employ 220 people now and 500 in the future.

Singapore-CIBA Vision has opened a multi-million-dollar contact lens and lens care manufacturing facility at Tulas Biomedical Park here, where it will employ 220 people now and 500 in the future.

The company has invested $85 million of the total $250 million it plans to spend on the project.

Mike Dilworth, vice president, global supply chain, for CIBA Vision, said the plant will serve as the company's Asia-Pacific supply chain hub for the global market and serve as a warehouse and distribution center for manufacturing activities in the region. It will supply Focus Dailies daily disposable soft contact lenses to the Asian market and O2OPTIX, produced in Batam, for the global market.

In other news, CIBA Vision appointed George Minno, PhD, as global head of lens care research and development. Dr. Minno will be responsible for bringing new lens care solutions to development. He joins the company from Alimera Sciences Inc., where he was vice president of product development, and he previously worked for CIBA Vision and Novartis Ophthalmics in technical and marketing positions.
